Carne was the last course designed by the legendary Eddie Hackett and many say he saved his best work until last. The new 9 holes, an Ally McIntosh/Jim Engh design, based on the original vision and sketches of Eddie Hackett for the most dramatic part of the dunescape at Carne, is now integrated with the back nine holes of the original Hackett course, providing a new integrated course routing – “The Wild Atlantic Dunes” course. This course routing is being hailed by golf commentators as the finest example of natural links golf in the world. Rated at number 12 in Ireland, it is arguably the most spectacular links course in Ireland, raw and untamed, with increased drama as the holes weave their way through the awe inspiring corners of the dune system, and is arguably the biggest dunes course in the world. Carne offers traditional raw links golf at its very best in a truly unique and idyllic golfing location, an experience not to be missed.
The two course routings, Hackett and the Wild Atlantic Dunes, are each played on consecutive days, and therefore most golfers now stay for two days to experience both course routings. We also offer 27 holes in one day.
The course itself was magnificent. I have played a lot of golf courses in several parts of the world but I don't think I ever experienced anything like Carne. It was the most brilliant, challenging, exciting and breath taking course I had the pleasure of playing. The fantastic food and first class service from the bar staff rounded off what was the perfect day and one which will live long in the memory. I have never played such a beautiful, well designed and monumental golf course. It was truly the best golfing experience I have ever had. Our courses we normally play are parkland and although I have played a few links courses over the last few years, nothing comes within reach of the occasion that Carne Golf Club is. Our only regret was not playing on a second day! Just to say a big 'THANK YOU ' for looking after us Pros during the PGA CHAMPIONSHIP. The staff in all departments are a credit to you and gave everyone a real Mayo welcome. The course is magnificent and the new holes certainly put manners on any wayward shots. Please pass on my thanks to the Sponsors and I'm already looking forward to the next time I return. Congratulations to all of you. Again many thanks. Our group had a wonderful day out with beautiful weather conditions, a very friendly welcome and a fantastic meal in the evening which made the day memorable for all of our group. I know the course was extremely busy on the day but because of the attention to detail and because of the organisational skills of Carne Links staff the whole experience was without delay pleasurable and one anyone would wish to repeat. What an incredible golf course. The course offers the usual challenges that Links golf offers but far more interesting than most. I played Royal St George’s and Royal Liverpool recently and neither of them come close. Carne is well manicured and naturally very beautiful in a peaceful part of Ireland. I just want to say a big thankyou from all us guys from Lisburn. We all had a great day's golf and food after was superb..
The Dunes course is on another planet. We will def return in near future and spread the word about Carne GC and the great hospitality you will receive playing and eating here I hope you can share my sincere gratitude to Jim Brown for showing me around and being my "caddy" for the day. It is always a good to play with a member but perhaps even more so at Carne where its truly a course built by the people for the people. Jim has a great sense of humor and a wealth of knowledge about life and the game. I thoroughly enjoyed the 4 hours we spent together.

I cannot help but be blown away by my experience at Carne which truly transcends golf. I described the experience to my network as "godly", "religious" , "galactic", "lunar" and a "video game in a cathedral"... the Belmullet area struck me as peaceful and I was able to pause properly and "smell the roses" for the first time in many years
